Resources for you and your pet
This compilation of resources covers some of the most frequently asked questions and concerns we hear from current and potential pet owners. We always recommend checking with your vet for any specific questions about your pet's health and care.

Pet Safety

Selecting a
Pet for
Your Family
If you're thinking about adding a pet to your family, there are many factors to consider. It's also a decision that shouldn't be made hastily. Considerations should include: the cost of pet ownership, the commitment of pet ownership for the life of the pet, your current home environment, and any county or city ordinances to consider. Microchips
Whether your pet is indoors only or indoor/outdoor, there's always a chance they could escape and become lost, or unfortunately, stolen. While pets can slip out the door anytime, it's especially common during severe weather and holidays when fireworks are being shot off.
A microchip is an easy way to help reunite you with your animal. A small, grain-sized chip, the microchip is inserted just below your pet's skin on the nape of their neck. As the owner, you will register the chip through a microchip service with your contact information. Then, in the instance your pet is lost and then found, it can be taken to a vet or animal shelter and scanned, and your information will allow you to be contacted and reunited with your pet.

We offer microchips at our quarterly vaccine clinics, or you can ask your veterinarian about microchipping your pet. More information from the AMVA here.

Toxic Plants for Pets
While having a cozy, plant-filled home is everyone's dream, some plants are not worth the risk of having around your pet. While reactions from ingesting may vary from mild irritation to death, it's always worth it to check any live plant you bring into your home. Many common plants and flowers are not safe around pets, but there are also varieties that are pet-safe! Learn more from the ASPCA's resource to determine if a plant is toxic or safe for pets.
